LUMBINI: After days of continuous rain, the skies cleared, revealing a breathtaking view of the Himalayas from Buddha’s birthplace in Lumbini on Wednesday.

Tourists and pilgrims were overjoyed to see the snow-capped mountains to the north. Eight-thousanders like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri typically become visible from Lumbini from mid-June to mid-August when the sky is clear.

Yogendra Nath Pandey, who has been performing prayers at the Mayadevi Temple for generations, said that the Himalayas are often visible from Lumbini when the weather is clear. “We often see Himalayan peaks from Lumbini when the sky becomes clear from mid-June to mid-August,” he added.

A group of pilgrims from Sri Lanka expressed their joy at being able to see the Himalayas from Buddha’s birthplace. They considered themselves extremely fortunate to witness this rare view of the mountains while visiting the sacred site.

“We are delighted because Buddha’s birth is often described as taking place in the lap of the Himalayas. Being able to see the mountains from Lumbini itself is a blessing,” one pilgrim told Himal Press.
