Govt agrees to raise allowances of parliament employees

KATHMANDU: The government has agreed to increase the allowances of the employees of the Federal Parliament Secretariat.

A facilitation committee led by the Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Padam Giri, signed a seven-point agreement with the Federal Parliament Secretariat Employees Union in Kathmandu on Monday.

The union had been protesting for a long time, placing an 11-point demand.

According to the agreement, housing allowance, education allowance, and meal expenses for Federal Parliament Secretariat employees will be increased. The monthly education allowance provided to employees will rise by Rs 300, while the daily meal allowance for overtime work will increase by Rs 100. Additionally, the government has agreed to raise the housing allowance provided to parliament employees.

The two sides have also agreed to review Annex 12 of the Federal Parliament Secretariat Employees Administration Regulation, 2008, every three years at the latest.
