KATHMANDU: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel is preparing to take a vote of confidence in the Bagmati Province Assembly on April 1.

Jamkattel’s government fell into the minority after the Nepali Congress (NC) withdrew its support following the formation of a new coalition government in the center. NC withdrew its support on March 6. As per the constitutional provision, the Chief Minister must take a vote of confidence within 30 days of the withdrawal of support.

Jamkattel, the parliamentary party leader of the CPN (Maoist Center), has brought the Hamro Nepal Party (HNP) on board the ruling coalition in the province. HNP has two members in the provincial assembly. One of them has already joined Jamkattel’s cabinet.

Jamkattel now has the support of 57 members from the Maoist Center, CPN-UML, CPN (Unified Socialist), and HNP.

The support of 56 members is needed to form the government in the provincial assembly.
