KATHMANDU: Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) is building a disabled-friendly overhead bridge with an elevator facility at the Kusunti intersection of the Ring Road in Lalitpur-13.

According to LMC, the overhead bridge will have elevators on both sides of the road. The project is estimated to cost Rs 46.8 million and is expected to be ready within a year.

LMC Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan laid the foundation stone for the overhead bridge amidst a special ceremony on Monday.

LMC has selected Lama-Pragati- Mani-Buddha JV to build the project following competitive bidding, while DB Multi-engineering Pvt Ltd is the project’s consultant. The metropolis signed the contract with the construction company on March 3.  As per the contract, the construction company will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of the overhead bridge for five years.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Maharjan said the overhead bridge with an elevator facility could be the first such infrastructure to be built in the country. “More than 17 people have lost their lives in road accidents in this intersection. This infrastructure will prevent such casualties,” he added.
