New coalition had to be formed due to NC, Dahal briefs party

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has briefed party leaders that the ruling alliance needed to be changed because of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Addressing the Maoist Center’s Secretariat Committee meeting on Monday, Dahal stated that he decided to form a new alliance with CPN-UML to alleviate suffering despite leading the coalition government. He also leveled several allegations against Deuba.

Dahal said that Deuba showed reluctance to exhibit flexibility on certain provisions of the transitional justice laws. Additionally, Dahal said that Deuba declined to replace his ministers despite their unsatisfactory performance. “I repeatedly urged Deuba to replace ministers whose performance remained weak, but I didn’t receive his support,” he told party leaders.

The Prime Minsiter also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat and Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet, among others.

Moreover, the Prime Minister criticized Deuba for unnecessary interference in the government’s operations. “Deuba and his associates unnecessarily meddled in matters such as employee promotions and transfers. This government failed to meet expectations due to Deuba’s interference,” he claimed.

Dahal also said that he had to sever ties with the Nepali Congress coalition due to Finance Minister Mahat’s high-handedness. “Minister Mahat showed indifference to my requests, but Deuba was not willing to replace him,” he added.

According to Maoist Center Secretary Ganesh Sah, the meeting also assessed the performance of the coalition government.
