POKHARA: All three candidates of the ruling coalition in Gandaki Province have been elected to the National Assembly.
Kiran Babu Shrestha and Padam Bahadur Pariyar of Nepali Congress have been elected from ‘Others’ and ‘Disabled’ clusters, respectively, while Manarupa Sharma of CPN (Maoist Center) has been elected from ‘Women’ cluster.
Shrestha defeated Chakra Bahadur Prajauli of CPN-UML, while Pariyar saw off the challenge of Hem Chandra Sherchan of CPN-UML. Similarly, Sharma defeated UML’s Samjhana Devkota.
Four parties of the ruling coalition – Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajbadi Party – had fielded their common candidates in the election while UML contested the election alone.
