KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rajendra Lingden, has proposed abolishing provinces from the federal structure.

Speaking to news editors in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Lingden said that the federal system has imposed a financial burden on the state. “Let’s abolish the provinces within the current federal structure and strengthen the local units. The number of people’s representatives should also be reduced,” he suggested.

Lingden also leveled serious accusations stating that corruption was pervasive with the involvement of every side.

“Positions of judges are being shared. Individuals aligned with the government have been appointed to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). The President is also working in the interest of the party. All are together on issues such as gold smuggling and the Bhutanese refugees problem,” Lingden claimed. “We cannot afford to wait until 2027.”

Lingden stated that the party is gearing up for a nationwide protest scheduled to begin next month.

“We cannot wait until the next election. The country’s situation is deteriorating with each passing day, and the leadership is not willing to rectify itself,” Lingden said. “That is why we are launching a nationwide protest starting next week.”
