KATHMANDU: Police have apprehended 12 individuals on charges of illicitly sending Nepali citizens to Russia and enlisting them in the army.
Police swung into action after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death of six Nepali citizens while serving for the Russian army and busted a racket responsible for sending youths to serve in the Russian Army.
The 12 individuals, namely Drona Dangi, Deepen Periyar, Kshitij Giri, Subhash Lama, Manish Neupane, Rosal Maharjan, Hari Bahadur Bishwakarma, Ishwar Adhikari, Gokarna Aryal, Sujata Dahal, Santosh Rokka, and Santosh Nepal, were presented before the media on Wednesday, according to Superintendent of Police Kumud Dhungel of District Police Range, Kathmandu.
The arrests were made in locations such as Lainchaur, Thamel, and Maharajganj as part of the ongoing investigation, said the police.
The racket, as per the police, lured Nepali youths with promises of better salaries and facilitated their illegal entry into Russia to join the armed forces on a visit visa. As of now, no complaints have been filed against the arrested individuals, the police confirmed.
The police also seized various documents from the racket’s office.
