KATHMANDU: Nepal will have the opportunity to seek redemption against Oman after its group stage loss when they face off in the final of the ICC Men’s 2024 T20 Asia Qualifier at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Nepal secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory over the UAE in the semifinals, while Oman outclassed Bahrain with a convincing 10-wicket win to secure their spot in the final.
During the group stage, Nepal and Oman were in the same group and faced each other in the last group match after both teams won their first two games. In a thrilling last-over encounter, Nepal narrowly lost by five runs despite a heroic performance by Bibek Yadav.
The final may not carry significant weight, as both countries have already qualified for the ICC Men’s 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the US next year.
In their previous encounters, Nepal and Oman have played five T20I matches, with Nepal emerging victorious in three of them, while Oman has won two.
