SC orders govt to furnish reason for presidential amnesty to Yograj Dhakal Yograj aka Regal Dhakal

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause notice to the government regarding its decision to recommend presidential amnesty for Yograj Djakal, also known as Regal, who was serving a life sentence for the murder of Chetan Manandhar.

Hearing a writ petition filed by Chetan’s wife Bharati, a single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma on Thursday directed the defendants to provide a written response within seven days. The apex court has scheduled the next hearing on the petition by a full bench for October 12.

Yograj was released from Tulsipur Prison after being granted amnesty on Constitution Day by President Ram Chandra Poudel.

Chetan was murdered in broad daylight in Nepalgunj in 2015, and in 2018, the Banke District Court sentenced him to life imprisonment.
