KATHMANDU: One person has lost his life Bajhang earthquake. According to the RSS news agency, the victim has been identified as Gunamati Dhami (40) of Okhal in Jayaprithvi Municipality-11.
Dhami was trapped in a landslide triggered by the earthquake on Tuesday, Inspector Dipesh Chaudhary, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Bajhang, told RSS.
Two earthquakes in less than 30 minutes have jolted Bajhang district in far-western Nepal.
The first earthquake, measuring ML 5.3 and with an epicenter at Talkot, struck the remote mountainous district at around 2:40 pm on Tuesday. Shortly thereafter, at 3:06 pm, a more powerful ML 6.3 earthquake shook the district headquarters, Chainpur, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center.
Altogether 11 people sustained injuries in different villages of Bajhang. Two of them have returned home after treatment, while nine others are receiving treatment at Bajura District Hospital.
According to police, the earthquakes caused significant damage to 135 structures in the district. Sixty houses in Thalara and 41 in Jayaprithvi have sustained significant damages.
