KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has bid farewell to the Nepali athletes selected for the 19th Asian Games in Kathmandu.

At a program organized in Kathmandu on Thursday, Dahal extended his best wishes to all the athletes. Speaking on the occasion, Dahal expressed confidence in the Nepali teams’ performance at the tournament.

The 19th Asian Games, which kicks off in Hangzhou, China, on September 23, will see a strong contingent of 253 Nepali athletes – 127 females and 126 males.

According to the National Sports Council, Nepal is contesting in 29 sports – basketball, archery, athletics, badminton, canoeing, boxing, cricket, cycling, e-sports, fencing, football, golf, handball, judo, kabaddi, breaking, rugby, shooting, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, karate, and wushu – in the Hangzhou Asia.

Nepal first competed in the Asian Games in 1951. It has so far won two silvers and 22 bronze medals in the Asian Games.
