School Education Bill registered in parliament

KATHMANDU: The Minister of Education, Science, and Technology has officially introduced the School Education Bill, 2023, in the parliament.

Ashok Kumar Rai, the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, registered the bill for amending and consolidating laws related to school education at the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Wednesday.

The cabinet had recently approved the bill for submission to the parliament.

The bill contains several provisions, including the conversion of private schools into educational trusts. Private school operators earlier strongly opposed the provision. The government was compelled to make some amendments to the bill after private school operators took to the streets and threatened to close schools nationwide.

Additionally, the bill proposes the elimination of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) after Class 10, opting instead for a final examination after Class 12 to be conducted by the National Examination Board (NEB).
