RSP presses govt to table loan shark bill

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has said that his party will obstruct parliamentary proceedings if a bill to rein in loan sharks is not tabled in the next meeting of the House of Representatives.

Speaking in the lower house on Friday, Lamichhane said that the government has created a narrative that opposition parties are against the people victimized by loan sharks. Stating that his party stands with the loan shark victims, he questioned why the government is delaying the crucial bill and whose interests are at play. “We request the government to table the bill without further ado. The people deserve to know whose interests are being served by the bill’s delay,”  he added.

“If the government fails to include the bill aimed at curbing loan sharks in the agenda of the next House of Representatives meeting, the RSP will obstruct parliamentary proceedings,” Lamichhane said.
