BHAIRAHAWA: Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Under Secretary-General of the United Nations, visited Lumbini – the birthplace of Lord Buddha – on Thursday.
Vice President Bhikshu Maitteya, Treasurer Siddhi Charan Bhattarai, Member Secretary Sanu Raja Shakya, Planning Chief Saroj Bhattarai, Chief Administrative Officer Gyanin, and other officials warmly welcomed Lacroix in Lumbini.
Speaking on the occasion, the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations expressed his happiness to visit Lumbini. He mentioned that the United Nations is collaborating with the Government of Nepal for the development of Lumbini, and this cooperation will continue in the future as well.
Laroix visited the Mayadevi Temple and the Peace Flame, as well as the monasteries of Thailand, Cambodia, France, and Vietnam.
The UN Under-Secretary-General is on a 4-day visit to Nepal.
Tarajdhoj Pandey, Chief of the Department of Military Operations of the Nepal Army, Baburam Adhikari, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, and other Nepal Army officials were also part of Lacroix’s entourage.
Nepal is the second-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions.
