KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) celebrated its first anniversary by organizing a tea reception in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, former Prime Ministers KP Sharma Oli, Madhav Kumar Nepal and Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai, ministers, diplomats, high-ranking government officials, artists, and people from different walks of life attended the reception, according to the RSP.
The reception was organized at the party’s new headquarters at Balaju.
Established on June 22, 2022, under the leadership of former television journalist Rabi Lamichhane, the party contested the 2022 General Election within less than six months of its formation and won 21 seats – seven under the first past the post (FPTP) system and 15 under proportional representation system. The party received 10.7% of of the votes and emerged as the fourth-largest party in parliament.
RSP President Lamichhane briefly held the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs in the coalition government formed after the November 20 election.
