KATHMANDU: An application has been registered at the Office of the President protesting the preparation to pardon Resham Chaudhary.
Sharada Bohora Kadayat, the wife of Inspector Keshav Bohoara who was among the eight police personnel killed in the massacre, registered the application on Friday.
The Supreme Court on May 16 upheld the decisions taken by Kailali District Court and Dipalaya High Court to sentence Chaudhary to life imprisonment for his involvement in the Tikapur incident. However, the government has started preparation to pardon him.
Seven police personnel, including Senior Superintendent Laxman Neupane and Inspector Bohora, were killed by protestors in Tikapur of Kailali during the Tharuhat movement led by Chaudhary.
“Since Section 159 (4) (D) of the Civil Criminal Procedure Code, 2017, mentions that it shall not be possible to pardon, postpone, change or reduce the punishment of the offender of the crime of killing by cruel and inhumane means or by taking control, me, all the people, security personnel and civil servants should get the feeling that the guardian of the country and the protector of the constitution are together with us in favor of justice and law,” the letter states.
The government’s decision to pardon Chaudhary has reached the Office of the President. He is expected to get the pardon on the occasion of the Republic Day on May 29.
