Mishra claims US pressure led to Khand’s arrest

KATHMANDU: Rabindra Mishra, Senior Vice President of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), has claimed that the United States is exerting pressure to expedite the investigation into the Bhutanese refugee scam.

In a social media post on Thursday, Mishra claimed that the arrest of Nepali Congress central committee member and former home minister Bal Krishna Khand, as well as the issuance of an arrest warrant for UML secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, won’t have been possible if it were not for the concerns and pressure of the US. “The issue of Bhutanese refugees is also connected to the US, and without their interest and possibly serious and threatening pressure, it is unimaginable that NC leader Balkrishna Khand would have been arrested and an arrest warrant would have been issued for UML Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi,” Mishra wrote. “If you think the rapid progress of the investigation into this scandal is a result of the spontaneously growing anti-corruption awareness within the current leadership, you are in delusion.”

He also questioned why high-ranking people involved in multiple other scams aren’t arrested.

Mishra added that it is, therefore, useless to praise the government and the home minister.
