Unsettled accounts of public offices rise to Rs 587.33 billion

KATHMANDU: Unsettled accounts of public offices increased by Rs 119.77 billion in the fiscal year 2021/22, the 70th Annual Report of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) shows.

With this, the accumulated unsettled accounts have increased to Rs Rs 587.33 billion – a rise of 21.45% compared to accumulated unsettled accounts of the previous fiscal year.

OAG submitted its annual report to President Ram Chandra Poudel on Thursday.

According to the report, 25.4% of unsettled accounts, or Rs 30.42 billion, is related to uncollected revenue, 66.33%, or Rs 79.45 billion, is related to non-compliance of rules, and 8.27%, or Rs 9.89 billion, is related to advances.

A lion’s share of the unsettled accounts is with the federal government, followed by local governments, province governments, and development committees, and similar organizations.

The OAG audited Rs 7,138,167,400,000 of 6,546 public offices in 2021/22. Of them, 4,068 offices were under the federal government, 1,218 under province governments, and 751 under local governments.

3. Communication & IT – Rs 2.70 billion
4. Agriculture and Cooperatives – Rs 2.53 billion
5. Home Affairs – Rs 1.57 billion
6. Land Reforms, Cooperatives & Poverty Alleviation – Rs 1.34 billion
7. Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation – Rs 1.29 billion
8. Urban Development – Rs 1.09 billion
9. Water Supply – Rs 878.5 million
10. Health and Population – Rs 864.4 million
