KATHMANDU: Anjan Shrestha has been elected as the Senior Vice President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).
Anjan was elected unanimously elected in the second round after another candidate Umesh Lal Shrestha withdrew from the race.
Along with Anjan and Umesh Lal, Ram Chandra Sanghai had contested the election for the post of Senior Vice President of the apex body of the Nepali private sector. However, Sanghai was eliminated in the first round as he came third after Anjan (37.99%) and Umesh Lal Shrestha (31.51%). Sanghai received 30.46% of the votes cast.
Sources say consensus could be reached after former presidents held discussions with the two candidates.
Anjan is a director of Laxmi Group, which is one of the prominent trading and industrial houses in the country. Laxmi Group is a diversified conglomerate with business interests spanning across various industries, including fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), steel, dairy, trading, automobiles, and food products, among others. Jaima Laxmi Trading Company is engaged in trading commodities such as sugar, powdered milk, liquid glucose, printing ink, plastic granules, and palm oil, among others. Additionally, he has also served as the former President of NADA Automobiles Association.
As per the FNCCI Charter, the Senior Vice President will be automatically elevated to the post of President of the next executive committee.
