Sanghai eliminated as senior vice presidential contest enters second round

KATHMANDU: The voting for the post of Senior Vice President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has entered the second round as none of the candidates secured 50% of the votes as required by the FNCCI charter.

According to the Election Committee of the FNCCI, Anjan Shrestha received 37.99% of the votes cast, while Umesh Lal Shrestha and Ram Chandra Sanghai secured 31.51% and 30.46% of the votes, respectively. This means Sanghai is now out of the senior vice presidential contest.

Anjan led the counting of district/town votes, while Sanghai and Umesh Lal won the counting of associate and commodities votes, respectively. As per the FNCCI charter, district/town votes carry 50% weightage, while commodities and associates carry 30% and 20%, respectively.

The second round of voting will begin at 4 pm. The votes of Sanghai’s supporters could determine who will become the next senior vice president of the FNCCI, business leaders say.

As per the FNCCI Charter, the Senior Vice President will be automatically elevated to the post of President of the next executive committee.
