Koirala faction to get three ministers, one minister of state

KATHMANDU: The anti-establishment faction of Nepali Congress, led by Dr. Shekhar Koirala, will have three ministers and one minister of state in the coalition government.

Koirala briefed the leaders of his faction about the development on Thursday.

“We will have three ministers and one minister of state. The cabinet could be expanded after the by-elections as it could send a negative message if expanded now,” Koirala said in the meeting, according to a leader of the faction.

It has been reported that the faction has already picked its ministers. Party Vice President Dhanaraj Gurung and Dig Bahadur Limbu are almost certain to become ministers. Similarly, one of Jivan Pariyar and Badri Pandey will become a minister, the leader said.

However, the faction hasn’t held discussions on who will become the minister of state.

Meanwhile, the establishment faction of the party led by President Sher Bahadur Deuba is likely to send NP Saud and Mohan Bahadur Basnet to the cabinet. Three lawmakers of the faction, Purna Bahadur Khadka, Ramesh Rijal, and Sita Gurung, have already joined the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led cabinet.
