Three in fray for FNCCI’s senior vice president post

KATHMANDU: Three candidates have filed nominations for the post of Senior Vice President in the election for the new executive of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).

Since the senior vice president is automatically elevated to the post of President in the next term as per the charter of the FNCCI, the election for the post of senior vice president is grabbing media headlines.

Anjan Shrestha, Ramchandra Sanghai and Umesh Lal Shrestha have registered their nominations for the post of senior vice president. They have formed separate panels to contest the election to be held in Kathmandu on April 12.

Similarly, industrialists and businesspeople are also lobbying hard to get elected as the vice presidents representing associate, commodities, and district/municipal chambers.

Although the competition for the post of senior vice president looks tight, Bharat Acharya is the common candidate for the post of vice president (associate) of both Anjan and Umesh Lal’s panel. Sanghai’s panel has named Jyotsna Shrestha as its candidate for the post of vice president (associate).

Jyotsna was initially unveiled as the candidate from Anjan’s panel. She, however, switched allegiance and joined Sangai’s camp on Sunday.

Similar agenda

All three candidates for the post of senior vice president have made the problems of industrialists and businesspeople their main agenda. All three candidates have pledged to take the necessary initiatives to make the economy vibrant.

Sanghai has prioritized creating an investment-friendly environment and infrastructure development. He has promised to solve the problems of industrialists and continue to work for their rights. “I am committed to making FNCCI more technology-friendly. Starting a help desk to listen to the problems of industrialists, increasing the role of the province chapter, and building secretariat building for FNCCI units across the country are my major priorities,” he added.

Similarly, Umesh Lal Shrestha has made ‘competent private sector, prosperous economy’ his campaign slogan. He has pledged to work selflessly to create a conducive environment for businesses. “I don’t want to become a celebrity, I want to assume leadership to solve the specific problems of industrialists and businesspeople,” he added.

Likewise, another senior vice president candidate, Anjan Shrestha, has promised to make FNCCI a common forum for industrialists and businesspeople. According to him, his first objective will be to give an impetus to the economy which is in a state of stagnation. “We have created a dynamic team not only to listen to businesspeople’s problems but also to solve them,” he says. “My candidacy is to speed up the work of FNCCI and to make it accessible for all industrialists, traders, and businessmen of all levels and classes.”
