KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has asked political parties to register with it for participation in by-elections in Bara-2 and Tanahun-1 constituencies by March 26.
The EC is holding by-elections in these two constituencies as well as the Chitwan-2 constituencies on April 23.
The Chitwan-2 seat became vacant after the Supreme Court ruled that Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane was unfit to continue as a member of the House of Representatives for not reinstating his citizenship certificate, which had become invalid after he became a US citizen.
Similarly, the Tanahun-1 constituency became vacant after sitting lawmaker Ram Chandra Poudel of the Nepali Congress was elected President, while the Bara-2 constituency became vacant following the election of sitting lawmaker Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav to the post of Vice President.
