KATHMANDU: National Planning Commission (NPC) has set the ceiling for the budget of the next fiscal year at Rs 1,688.40 billion.
The government will now have to make the budget for the fiscal year 2023/24 within this ceiling.
The ceiling is Rs 105.43 billion lower than the budget of the current fiscal year. The government has brought a budget of Rs 1,793.83 billion for the fiscal year. The government recently downsized the budget by Rs 244 billion through the mid-term review of the budget as part of its austerity measures.
The government brings the fiscal budget on May 29, while the new fiscal year begins in mid-July.
According to the NPC, it considered challenges that the country’s economy is facing and the impacts they have made on the economic indicators while estimating the budget ceiling.
NPC has estimated that the economy will expand by 14% in the next three fiscal years.
