KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli said Monday said controversies were being hatched to bring instability to the country.

Addressing the 22nd general convention of the party’s student wing, ANNFSU, Oli, who heads the high-level political mechanism of the coalition partners, said he fears for the coalition. “Since no party commands a clear majority in the parliament, internal and external power centers are at play to derail this country,” Oli said. “As the UML is the ultimate protector of the country, the first attack could be on the party.”

He also said the formation of a government with UML’s involvement by breaking the five-party coalition was an achievement in itself.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal joined hands with CPN-UML and other fringe parties to form a government after the five-party coalition led by the Nepali Congress refused to support him as the prime minister.  As per the power-sharing deal reached among the coalition partners, UML is supposed to get the positions of the President and Speaker.

But Dahal has started saying that national consensus has to be searched for President after the NC gave a vote of confidence to him in the House of Representatives.

Oli also said he was hopeful of the ANNFSU’s victory in the free student union (FSU) polls. He also suggested that the ANNFSU leaders forge a consensus on AFFNSU leadership in the convention.
