SURKHET: Province Chief of Karnali Province, Tilak Pariyar, has invited political parties to make a claim for government formation in the province within seven days.
Issuing a statement on Thursday, the Office of the Province Chief has invited political parties to make the claim by 5 pm on January 11.
“Since no political party commands a majority in the province assembly to form a government as per Article 168 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, the province chief has invited two or more parties to make the claim as per 168 (2),” the statement reads.
Nepali Congress is the largest party in the 40-member Karnali Province Assembly with 14 seats, followed by CPN (Maoist Center) with 13 and CPN-UML with 10. CPN (Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party have one seat each while one was elected as an independent candidate.
Parties need at least 21 seats to form government in the province. The ruling alliance of CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center) and some fringe parties formed at the center is likely to stake a claim to government formation in the province.
