Jamaican Trevon Griffith to captain Janakpur Royals

KATHMANDU: Nepal T20 side Janakpur Royals Tuesday unveiled Jamaican batsman Trevon Griffith as its captain.

The Janakpur-based franchise unveiled the Jamaican batsmen as its captain at a press meet organized in Kathmandu.

West Indies duo – fast bowler Kesrik Williams and wicketkeeper-batsman Chadwick Walton – are also in the team.

Sompal Kami is the marquee player of Janakpur Royals. The team also has Sharafuddin Ashraf and Samiullah Shenwari of Afghanistan and Ashan Priyanjan of Sri Lanka as foreign players.

Lalit Rajbanshi, Susan Bhari, Aadil Alam, Sandip Jora, Dilip Nath, Sagar Pun, Pawan Sarraf, Jitendra Mukhiya, Khadak Bohora and Rajesh Pulami are the homegrown players in the Royals squad.

The team will be coached by Umesh Patwal of India.

Six teams – Kathmandu Knights, Pokhara Avengers, Far Western United, Janakpur Royals, Biratnagar Super Kings and Lumbini All Stars – are participating in the inaugural franchise cricket league that kicks off on December 23.

All the matches will be played at TU International Cricket Stadium.
