KATHMANDU: The Election Commission is submitting the final report of election results to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday.
Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Wednesday, the Election Commission said results of the province assembly elections will be submitted to respective provincial chiefs.
Addressing the press meet, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said the election results will be published in the gazette once the report is submitted to the President and provincial chiefs.
As per the election results published by the Election Commission, a total of 825 individuals – 275 in the House of Representatives and 550 in seven province assemblies – have been elected. Of the 275 members elected to the House of Representatives, 91, or 33.10%, are women. Similarly, around 200 (36.636%) out of 550 members elected to seven province assemblies are women.
According to EC, 86 political parties had been registered for the election for the House of Representatives. Of them, 61 participated in first past the post (FPTP) voting and 47 participated in proportional representation (PR) voting.
Altogether 17,988,570 were eligible to vote in the election. Of them, 11,047,034 (61.41%) exercised their voting rights. About 5.06% of votes were declared invalid.
The process of government formation as per Article 76 of the Constitution of Nepal will begin after the report is submitted to the President.
