ITAHARI: Mayors of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City and Barahakshetra Municipality of Sunsari have held discussions on diverting the waters from the Saptakoshi River to solve drinking water woes in Dharan city.
Earlier, Dharan sub-metropolis mayor Harka Sambang had made a formal request to his Barhakshetra counterpart Ramesh Karki for the latter’s support to bring water from Saptakoshi River to Dharan.
In the meeting held on Wednesday, Karki said he was committed to providing needful assistance and cooperation for the execution of plan made by the Dharan sub-metropolis.
This is the third formal meeting between the chiefs of the two local units of Sunsari. In the meeting, the two chiefs held discussions on drinking water problem and other issues, according to Pukar Pokharel, the information ofifcer of Barahakshetra Municipality.
In the meeting, Sampang told Karki that the water diversion plan should be a joint project of the two local units. He added that the two local units would also collaborate on waste management, road infrastructure, religious circuit and other programs.
After the meeting, the two mayors also toured the possible sites for water lifting.
