KATHMANDU: As many as 93 people were taken ill due to suspected food poisoning after attending a wedding reception at Chautari Party Palace in Dharamchok in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-4 of Chitwan. Of them, 50 are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

According to SP Govinda Puri, chief of the District Police Office, Chitwan, those who attended the reception last Wednesday began falling ill soon after.

The patients are being treated at Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan Medical College, and the College of Medical Sciences.

“Out of the 93 people who have fallen ill so far, 50 are still under treatment. Two patients who were kept in the ICU have shown improvement and have been shifted to the general ward. All patients are reported to be out of danger,” SP Puri told RSS news agency.

Meanwhile, police have taken two officials of the party palace for investigation. The Food Technology and Quality Control Division Office is also investigating the case.

Patients showed symptoms such as high blood pressure, severe fever, and diarrhea. Doctors attending to the patients have told police that the illness was caused by food poisoning, according to the news agency.
