ITAHARI: CPN (Maoist Center) has exited the Koshi Province Government.

A meeting of the parliamentary committee of CPN (Maoist Center) held on Monday decided to withdraw support extended to the government of Kedar Karki of Nepali Congress and quit the government, according to the Indra Bahadur Angbo, the parliamentary party leader of Maoist Center in Koshi Province Assembly.

Angbo said that the Maoist Center will notify the Province Chief of its decision on Monday itself. He added that the Maoist Center will also register an application to summon a special session of the provincial assembly.

Although Chief Minister Karki was appointed to the position with the support of CPN-UML, Maoist Center also extended its vote of confidence to him later on.

Maoist and UML have now formed a new ruling alliance. As per the understanding among the ruling coalition partners, CPN-UML will form the next government in Koshi. UML leaders have urged Chief Minister Karki to step down and pave way for the formation of a new government.

However, Karki has been refusing to step down stating that his government was formed by utilizing the last option prescribed in the constitution and that the province would head to the mid-term polls if he were to step down.
