KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yog Bahadur Pal who is under investigation for charges of sexual misconduct.
Pal, who is currently stationed at the Sudurpaschim Provincial Police Office, was summoned to the police headquarters last week after a complaint was filed against him by a lady constable.
“SSP Pal has been suspended for six months on the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs,” Kuber Kadayat, the spokesperson of Nepal Police, told Himal Press. “We received the letter from the home ministry on Thursday. SSP Pal’s suspension bega on Friday itself. The case should be resolved within six months.”
Both the police headquarters and Sudurpaschim Provincial Police Office are conducting investigations into the complaint.
According to the lady constable, SSP Pal asked her to meet him when she was preparing to embark on home leave on June 2. When she reached Pal’s residence, he allegedly proposed to ‘celebrate good Friday’. She immediately informed the duty officer about the incident.
This is not the first time that charges of sexual misconduct have been filed against SSP Pal. A similar complaint was lodged against him when he was serving as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Solukhumbu district. The police headquarters had taken departmental action against him at that time.
