25 houses swept away by Kaligandaki in Parbat

POKHARA: The Kaligandaki River swept away 25 houses in Farse, located in Jaljala Rural Municipality-8 of Parbat district on Sunday.

According to Nepal Police, the river entered the settlement at around 8 a.m. after its water level rose following heavy rains and swept away 25 houses.

Of the around 80 houses in the settlement, 25 have been swept away, while the remaining houses are at risk. No casualties have been reported, and all residents of the settlement have been relocated to safer areas, police say.

Police teams have been unable to reach the site immediately because of a landslide. The settlement is about 6 kilometers east of the Milanchowk Police Post in Parbat.

The rising water level in the Kaligandaki has caused damage at several locations. Floodwaters from the river also swept away a concrete bridge connecting Mirmi in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-7 of Syangja with Harmichaur in Gulmi.

The Kaligandaki River originates in Upper Mustang region of Mustang and flows through Myagdi, Parbat, Baglung, Palpa, Gulmi, Syangja, Tanahu and Nawalpur districts before meeting Narayani at Devghat.
