2024 EIMUN concludes in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The five-day Everest International Model United Nations Conference concluded in Kathmandu on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Kathmandu, the eighth edition of the conference brought together over 200 student delegates from across South and Central Asia. “This year, a variety of regional policy issues including climate change, artificial intelligence, women’s participation in peace and security, and combating digital misinformation, were discussed,” the statement said. “The conference provided a platform to learn about and discuss emerging global agendas, share experiences and expertise, and develop innovative policy recommendations to address these issues through team-building efforts and self-leadership initiatives.”

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Chief of Mission Garrett Wilkerson thanked all the participants for their meaningful and active contributions throughout the conference and for making it a grand success. He highlighted how programs like EIMUN promote multilateralism and provide a useful platform to practice negotiation and public speaking skills.

The conference was organized jointly by the US Embassy in Nepal and the Youth Thinkers Society.

The first EIMUN was organized in Kathmandu in 2014 which drew over 150 participants from eight countries. The conference has been organized every year since then, except in 2021 and 2022 due to COVID pandemic.
