KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will be seeking a vote of confidence in parliament later today.
Dahal was appointed as prime minister on December 25 with the support of 169 members of the House of Representatives, as required by Article 76(2) of the Constitution of Nepal. According to Article 76(4), Dahal must receive a vote of confidence from parliament within 30 days of his appointment.
The CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman currently has the support of seven parties: CPN-UML, Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janata Samajbadi Party, Janamat Party, and Nagarik Unmukti Party.
Dahal is also expected to expand his cabinet after passing the floor test.
CPN (Maosit Center) contested the election by forging a five-party alliance under Nepali Congress. But the party ditched the alliance and joined hands with CPN-UML to form a new alliance after NC refused to offer him the PM’s post.
