14 died in road accidents in Koshi this Dashain SP Binod Ghimire

ITAHARI: Fourteen people died in 269 road accidents across Koshi Province during this year’s Dashain festival.

According to SP Binod Ghimire, chief of the Itahari-based Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office, 13 men and one woman died between October 3 and 15.

The highest number of deceased are from Morang district. Five individuals died in 95 road accidents in Morang during the period, while 16 others were injured. Likewise, four died and seven others were injured in 65 road accidents in Sunsari. Jhapa saw three deaths in 72 road accidents, while one each died in Dhankua and Khotang districts.

Traffic police collected Rs 5.19 million in revenue by penalizing 7,591 motor vehicles in different parts of the province for rash driving during the period.

The office has deployed 500 traffic police personnel on different roads in Koshi Province, according to SP Ghimire.
