Parties close to consensus on content of ToR for parliamentary inquiry panel

KATHMANDU: A task force formed to finalize terms of reference for the parliamentary inquiry panel to probe cooperative fraud allegations against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane has forged consensus on most of the issues.

According to a member of the task force, consensus, however, is eluding parties on one issue – while ruling parties are for defining cooperatives associated with Lamichhane as ‘troubled’, NC has been saying that defining them as ‘troubled’ could pass on liabilities of these cooperatives to the government.

Likewise, both the ruling and opposition parties are said to have forged a consensus on refraining from naming Lamichhane in the ToR, but naming the cooperatives allegedly associated with him.

Parties forged an understanding to form a task force to finalize the ToR of the parliamentary committee on Saturday.

The task force led by Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri has Mahesh Bartaula of Nepali Congress, Jiban Pariyar of CPN (Maoist Center), and Shishir Khanal of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) as members.
