KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chairman Upendra Yadav has taken a step closer to becoming a member of parliament as his party has decided to make Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav its candidate for the post of Vice President.
A meeting of the executive committee of JSP held in Kathmandu on Thursday took the decision.
Yadav plans to contest the re-election in Ramsahaya’s constituency, Bara-2, which will become vacant if he is elected as Vice President. He agreed to support the alliance of CPN (Maoist Center) and Nepali Congress (NC) on the condition that his party is given the vice-presidential post. JSP leaders claim that Yadav insisted that Ramsahaya should be fielded as the party’s candidate for the post of vice-president to pave his way to the House of Representatives by contesting the re-election.
Yadav, who has been a key political figure in Nepal since 2006, has been lobbying for the unification of other parties and the formation of a front with parties that share similar ideologies since his defeat in the parliamentary election held in November last year. Despite Ramsahaya’s lack of interest in becoming the parliamentary leader, Yadav encouraged him to take the post so that he can use him for his benefit.
In the election held in November last year, Yadav was defeated by CK Raut of Janamat Party in Saptari-2 constituency.
