KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed dissatisfaction over the imprisonment of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, according to a RSP leader.
RSP spokesperson and lawmaker Manish Jha, who met the former CPN-UML Vice Chairperson on Tuesday, said Bhandari’s view was that it is wrong to imprison President Lamichhane by framing it as a political case. “She said the government acted unjustly by jailing him while cooperative funds remain unrecovered,” Jha said.
Bhandari also told Jha that she had already moved forward in her political journey. “I have already moved on. As much as possible, I will continue in politics through UML. If not, I will look for alternatives,” Bhandari said, according to Jha.
UML had revoked her party membership while requesting she maintain the stature of a former president. Bhandari is currently active through the Madan Bhandari Foundation.
Lamichhane, who is accused of misusing cooperative funds, is currently in judicial custody for trial.
