KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been registered in the Supreme Court, challenging the government’s decision to make the national identification card mandatory to receive social security allowance.
Advocate Bimal Pokharel registered the petition, seeking the apex court’s order to scrap the cabinet decision of June 6, which made the national ID card compulsory to receive social security allowance in 28 districts.
In his petition, Advocate Pokharel argued that the cabinet’s decision has created a situation of fear among social security allowance beneficiaries who have not been able to prepare their national identification cards.
The petitioner has sought an interim order from the Supreme Court against the cabinet decision.
