Women’s Volleyball: Nepal records first-ever win against India

KATHMANDU: The Nepali national women’s volleyball team secured its first-ever victory against India, defeating the southern neighbor in 3-2 sets in the second match of the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Nepal won the opening set 25-18, but India responded with a 25-12 win in the second set. Nepal took the third set 25-17, only for India to even the score with a 25-18 win in the fourth set. Nepal defeated India 15-13 in the tightly contested final set to record a historic victory.

Nepal has always put up strong performances against India but had never secured a win until now. Nepal gave a tough fight to India in the 13th SAF Games in 2019, but lost the decisive set 6-15 after the teams had split the first four sets. Nepal, however, lost to India in 1-3 sets in the 19th Asian Games held in China.

This is Nepal’s second win in as many matches in the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League. The hosts defeated Sri Lanka in straight sets in its first game on Thursday.
