Women’s Volleyball: Nepal loses to Iran in 2-3 sets

KATHMANDU: Nepal suffered its first defeat of the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League, losing to Iran in 2-3 sets in a tightly contested match at the Dasharath Stadium Covered Hall on Sunday.

Iran took the first set 25-16, but Nepal came back strongly in the second set and defeated the visitors 25-16. The two sides played a very competitive third set which Iran ultimately won 25-23. Nepal registered an easy 25-15 win in the fourth set and took the game to the fifth set. It, however, lost the deciding set 13-15.

Iran has three wins and a defeat (against India) after four matches, while Nepal and India each have two wins and one defeat after three matches. Sri Lanka has one win after three matches, while the Malvies are winless.

Nepal will play against Maldives, while India will take on Sri Lanka in their last league matches.  Since the Maldives have no chance of qualifying for the semifinal even if they win the match against Nepal, the other four teams have already qualified for the semifinals.
