Women’s representation in state organs on the rise: Speaker

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said that the representation of women at important organs of the government is increasing due to provisions enshrined in the constitution.

Speaking at a program organized by the Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN), on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Ghimire noted that the constitutional provision that requires at least 33% women representation has enabled women to participate in law-making roles. He, however, emphasized the need for continued efforts to ensure women’s rights and long-term management and mobilization of natural resources for economic prosperity. He also called on everyone to play their part in making laws for the protection and promotion of forests and the environment by implementing existing laws and addressing challenges in this sector.

Similarly, FECOFUN Chairperson Bharati Pathak lauded the organization’s role in developing women’s leadership and emphasized the need for activities to promote women’s financial independence in the future.

On the occasion, FECOFUN also honored its members who are currently serving as members of the House of Representatives and Province Assembly.
