KATHMANDU: Japan knocked Nepal out of the Women’s Football in the 19th Asian Games at the group stage, securing a comfortable 8-0 victory at the Wenzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium on Monday.
Japan, the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, scored five goals in the first half and added three more in the second half to add to Nepal’s misery.
H Osawa scored two goals for Japan, while Y Shiokoshi, Y Yamamoto, M Ueno, R Wakisaka, K Sakakibara and M Hijikata scored a goal each.
Japan is 8th in the FIFA ranking, while Nepal is ranked 101.
Earlier on Friday, Nepal suffered a 0-2 defeat against Vietnam in its first group-stage game.
