KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Canada, in collaboration with the Centre for Women’s Development Studies, hosted two panel discussions at an event titled “Advancing Women’s Political Empowerment” in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Eminent leaders including Member of House of Representatives Dr Toshima Karki and Member of the first Constituent Assembly Binda Pandey from Nepal; and former Bhutanese minister Dorji Choden spoke in one of the panels moderated by Colin Wetmore, first secretary at the Embassy of Canada, according to a statement issued by the embassy.
Likewise, Susan Ferguson, UN Women’s India Country Representative; Ranjana Kumari, Director of the Centre for Social Research; and Dr Rashmi Singh, Assistant Professor at O P Jindal Global University spoke at the other panel that was moderated by Dr Sanjay Kumar, Centre for Study of Developing Societies.
“Women are critical partners in creating sustainable prosperity. Evidence and experience shows that women’s leadership in political decision-making improves development outcomes for us all. By working together, we can create a world where everyone – regardless of gender – can thrive equally,” Canada’s ambassador to Nepal and India, Cameron MacKay, said.
The objective of the event was to advance women’s political empowerment by convening diverse panels of experts from India, Nepal, and Bhutan, the embassy said in the statement.
