We won’t join Socialist Front until Dahal admits his mistake: Yadav

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal (JSP Nepal) Chairperson Upendra Yadav has
said that he won’t participate in the Socialist Front meetings until CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal acknowledges his past betrayals.

“Why join a front when someone uses it to become a leader but betrays allies at the first opportunity? There is no possibility of joining the front until Dahal’s past betrayals are clearly addressed,” Yadav said in a conversation with Himal Press on Wednesday.

JSP Nepal was an important force when Dahal and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal were preparing to form the Socialist Front. Yadav was not only positive but firmly committed to the formation of the front. However, his party JSP Nepal split while preparation to form the Socialist Front was underway. Since then, he has remained inactive in the front. front-building efforts and maintains his position against participation. Currently, Yadav is aligned with the ruling coalition while Prachanda and Nepal’s parties are in opposition.

Ashok Rai and six other lawmakers left JSP Nepal to form JSP in May 2024. Out of 12 lawmakers, JSP Nepal has only five now. Party split has weakened Yadav and he now looks resentful toward Dahal.

Yadav did not attend the front’s meeting at the office of the Unified Socialist in Aloknagar of Kathmandu on Wednesday. Unified Socialist Chairperson Nepal is optimistic that Yadav will join the front soon.

When asked why he skipped the front’s meeting on Wednesday, Yadav said he had no information about the meeting. “I was not notified. I don’t know where the meeting convened and who participated,” he said.

He insists there needs to be a discussion about his party’s split as well. “The front has not convened since our party split. We need to discuss why and by whom the party was split,” Yadav added.

Maoist Center Chairperson Dahal was the Prime Minister when JSP underwent a split. Yadav claims that Maoist Center Chairperson Dahal orchestrated his party’s split. “Why rejoin a front that facilitated our party split while we were still a part of it?” Yadav questioned.

Yadav served as Health Minister in Dahal’s government formed with the support of UML. The party split occurred while Yadav was attending a program in the US. Upon his return, Dahal removed him from the government and inducted Rai of the JSP in his cabinet.

The JSP Nepal Chairperson believes Dahal is capable of betraying anyone. “He deceived Unified Socialist by reshuffling the government. Before that, he betrayed KP Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba,” Yadav said.

He maintained that there was no possibility of JSP Nepal returning to the front until past betrayals were addressed.

Yadav is presently busy with activities to expand the party organization. He spent nearly four months working on party organization expansion in Madhesh Province and some districts of Koshi Province. He returned to Kathmandu on Tuesday.
