KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said that the upcoming 11th General Convention will see a fair competition for party leadership if efforts to elect new leadership on a consensus basis fail.
Speaking at an interaction with news editors in Kathmandu on Thursday, Oli made it clear that he would continue as party chairperson if the general convention representatives placed their trust in him. “My continuity in the position is likely. Or, I might have to relinquish the position if convention representatives do not have confidence in me,” Oli said. “I might also have to withdraw from the race if such a consensus is reached.”
Oli added that leaders will not be pressured to forge a consensus this time. “He (Ishwar Pokharel) has announced his candidacy and begun campaigning, but he has not talked with me. He should have discussed it with me as well,” Oli said.
