KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has warned of strong resistance if attempts are made to reverse people’s rights through constitutional amendments.

Speaking at a joint consultation meeting of the party’s Central Disciplinary Commission, Election Commission and Accounts Commission in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Dahal said that the two-party government has begun to work against the interests of the people. He cautioned that any attempt to reverse people’s rights through constitutional amendments would be met with powerful opposition.

“The current coalition government of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML is undoing the positive work carried out by the previous Maoist-led government. We need to raise strong voices in parliament against such actions,” Dahal said in the meeting.

According to Maoist Center Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota, Dahal also said the Maoist Center needs to strengthen the opposition’s role in parliament by collaborating with other opposition parties. He also expressed concern over Prime Minister KP Oli’s statements, which he claimed were contrary to the spirit of the people’s war. Sapkota warned that such rhetoric could impact the peace process.
