We must take leadership of the pro-identity movement: JSP

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has stated that it should take leadership of the pro-identity movement going on in different parts of the country.

Referring to the ongoing protest against the naming of Koshi Province, the JSP has asserted that it should not only extend its support and cooperation to pro-identity activists but should also play a leadership role. “They named Province 1 as ‘Koshi Province’ by reaching a consensus among CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, and CPN (Maoist Center) on March 1 last year. Due to our protest, the Maoist Center admitted its mistake and offered self-criticism for its weakness,” the party stated in its political report.

JSP, together with CPN (Unified Socialist), has proposed naming the province ‘Limbuwan-Sagarmatha’. “Although our proposal couldn’t be endorsed, pro-identity activists have taken it positively,” JSP said.

JSP has also clarified that the Socialist Front is merely a working alliance aimed at achieving political objectives. The party’s report describes the Socialist Front as an alliance of parties within the ruling coalition. The JSP has said that the Socialist Front serves as a platform for political forces advocating federalism, democracy, good governance, social justice, and national independence after the struggle against regression.

“Socialist Front was formed as the duration of this ruling coalition may be limited. It would have been better if the ruling coalition had developed into a joint front rather than just a working alliance, but the Nepali Congress was not in favor of a long-term cooperation with the coalition partners,” the JSP said in its report.

According to the JSP, the Socialist Front represents socialist forces whose ultimate goal is achieving socialism.

The report also states that the primary focus of parties in the ruling coalition was on preserving the government. “Although the JSP had presented a 53-point suggestion, which included strengthening tasks related to strengthening federalism, development, and good governance, the government has not shown urgency in fulfilling the tasks outlined in the coalition’s common minimum program,” it said.
